A classic 1930s block in Bondi is about to have its 21st-century revival.
Allambi Property and Woods Bagot have joined forces to transform a classic apartment building into a luxury beachside address. What were 11 traditional flats will become Bowey: 16 residences with a contemporary two-level addition and ground-floor retail offering.
"The developer, Shaun Bond from Allambi Property, is a local who understands Bondi intimately", says Dennis Vertzayias, Laver Residential director.
"Under his careful guidance, world-class architects Woods Bagot have done an amazing job respecting the heritage components of the site and meticulously integrating the brand-new construction around it."
“The result will be a small boutique building which is truly world-class in its design and quality.”
Once the modern makeover of the 1392 sqm lot is complete in the second half of 2026, Bowey will be home to a choice of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, including a free-standing grand penthouse.
Woods Bagot has artfully married the Art Deco era façade with striking new architecture that makes the most of Bondi's famous outdoor coastal lifestyle.
And at the development's heart is a century-old fig tree, which has been preserved within a landscaped courtyard to tell the tale of Bowey's heritage.
Inside, the residences have open-plan layouts flowing through to terraces and balconies with views.
There are high ceilings, natural stone surfaces, timber floors and kitchens featuring European appliances.
Veryzayias adds that even before the official launch of Bowey this month, interest in the project has been widespread.
"We've already had a lot of inquiries from Eastern suburbs buyers seeking the premium quality and design of Woods Bagot," he says
"It's been really interesting cross-section of buyers; we've had younger professional couples, a few downsizers and quite a lot of interest from expats."
"What they all appreciate about it is the location, Bondi Rd's got great amenities with everything right there, and it's also walking distance to Westfield Bondi Junction."
Bowey is a short walk to Bondi and Tamarama beaches and is surrounded by renowned eateries such as Totties, Elva and Icebergs, as well as boutique retailers and transport.
"The location is outstanding. This is where the real Bondi Lives and where locals love to congregate." Dennis Vertzayias, Laver Residential director.
